Wow! Am I thrilled for this one!!
I have been in the works developing a dress pattern that will make your little girl feel like a princess when she is wearing it.
I am brand new to sewing and design… so … We have definitely hit some bumps along the way. Aaaand maybe some fails. But! Here is what we are working with.
Originally I had no idea what I wanted in terms of sleeve and dress length. I was thinking a puff sleeve at the shoulder that was wide to the wrist. A long skirt with a small tier at the bottom. This was the first iteration.

It turned out pretty but not what I had in mind.
Back to the drawing board…

On to pattern 2… This was the mega fail.
You gotta fail sometimes to know what you did wrong and how to make it right! A fail but a learning experience for sure.
I wanted to try to make the sleeves more ballooned at the top of the shoulder, more puffed at the wrist. I wanted the bottom two tiers to be smaller so I just cut the second tier in half to make two skinny ones. (Major face palm). This dress ended up being very wonky in all the wrong ways. The sleeves were way too puffy on top, too skinny on the bottom. The tiers.. Let’s not talk about those….. The back of the dress was too short and all around bad.

My daughter seems to like it, even though I do not! Again, a good learning experience haha.
I chucked that design in the bin and went back to pattern 1 and changed the sleeve length and took out a tier. Another big experiment as I am extremely unexperienced with this sort of thing.

I used a vintage ladies pattern from the 60s for some visual reference as I cannot print it and there are zero measurements. The skirt I made for pattern 3 has some flaws and the back bodice was too thin. But…… I may have done it!!!
The baby bluebell dress!!!!
Like I said, it needs a few adjustments before the pattern is final. I am so thrilled at how far its come along!
Stay tuned for final dress reveal <3
